Cannes Film Festival 2024: New Films Complete the Official Selection
« Gather the popcorns and adjust your monocles! The 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival warms up with a casting of competitors that could even make the Croisette blush. Thirteen new films shyly knocked at the door of the Official Selection on Monday, April 22, and were welcomed with open arms, three of them ready for the Palme d'or. At the top of the list is Michel Hazanavicius's ‘The Preciousest of Goods', an animated feature film that risks itself in the courtyard of the greats for the first time since ‘Valse with Bachir' in 2008. Hazanavicius could make sparks, or at least some animated bubbles. He is joined by Mohammad Rasoulof's ‘The Seed of the Sacred Fig', a political film he could vote on his own, especially when one knows that Rasoulof is not exactly the favourite of the Iranian regime. And let's not forget ‘Three Kilometers until the end of the world' by Romanian actor Emanuel Parvu, who we hope will not make you walk too long. Next to the heavy suitors, the Festival also offers us an out-of-competition buffet with the new ‘Monte Cristo Count' starring Pierre Niney – big budget, big sword, big drama. Not to mention the special sessions that promise to captivate, from the intriguing Romanian ‘Nasty' to the much-anticipated ‘Spicitors!' by Arnaud Desplechin, where the cinema looks itself in the mirror. In short, Cannes 2024 promises as sparkling as a fresh champagne. Get ready, it's gonna be a festival where movies are the real stars on the roug carpet
Welcome Party Cannes Festival at Majestic Beach
Dear readers, if you thought that the opening night of the Cannes Film Festival was going to be as predictable as a Hollywood action film, you must be mistaken! The welcome evening on Majestic beach was anything but conventional. By 8:30 pm, the evening started, not with the usual pop of a bottle of champagne, but with the refreshing pshhh of a Spritz helas cocktail, not very well prepared (see photo). But honestly, it just added charm to the event, giving a staggered note to this glamorous evening whose themed buffet was as beautiful as it was delicate for the palate. Live music then took over, adding notes of funk, jazz and hit to the Mediterranean Sea night symphony. The live band was absolutely electrifying, transforming the beach into a real open-air discotheque. The voices of the duo singers echoed the waves, creating an undeniable festive atmosphere. The evening continued with laughter, shrapnel and clumsy dance steps on the sand. At midnight, while the last notes of music fainted in the air, there was general satisfaction among the guests of the cinema. Yes, this year's welcoming evening may have lacked champagne, but it certainly showed a sparkling spirit and contagious joy. And isn't this the very essence of the Cannes Film Festival? A celebration of the unexpected, art and, above all, pleasure. This is an evening that will remain engraved in our memories. But then, you tell me, where were the gifts?

The film Jeanne du Barry de Maiwenn will open the 76th Cannes Film Festival. It will therefore be presented as a world preview on Tuesday 16 May on the screen of the Grand Théâtre Lumière and will be released on the same day in the French theatres. It is the sixth feature film of the director, known for winning the Prix du Jury du Festival de Cannes with the film Polisse in 2011. In this much-anticipated film project, Johnny Depp will encamp the role of King Louis XV and Maiwenn herself will act as her favorite mistress, Jeanne du Barry, known as Madame la Comtesse du Barry. La Montée des Marches Après presque 2 ans d’attente, nous avons pu retrouver notre festival préféré, même si le parcours était plus long et encore plus controlé que d’habitude. Mais une fois sur les marches, l’atmosphère du plus grand Festival du Monde a fait son effet, surtout lorsque Mylène Farmer est apparue ! Le cinéma étaitt de retour à Cannes, emmené par »Annette » qui a ouvert les festivités sur la Croisette, en présence de Marion Cotillard, Adam Driver, Jodie Foster, Mylène Farmer, Tahar Rahim et le Président du Jury Spike Lee. Les membres du jury avec le réalisateur brésilien Kleber Mendonça Filho etl’actrice Maggie Gyllenhaal,ont évoqués la place des femmes dans le cinéma, avec la Française Mélanie Laurent qui a fait le lien avec l’écologie. Ils avaient auparavant fait part de leur joie de célébrer à Cannes les retrouvailles du cinéma mondial, après cette longue période imposée par le Covid C’est un miracle d’être ici », s’est enthousiasmé Jodie Foster ! Spike Lee, à côté de Tahar Rahir main dans la mains avec Mylène Farmer en robe rouge et chevelure flamboyante ont entamés leur marathon cinéphile, avec 24 films, pour s’achever par la remise de la Palme d’Or le 17 juillet. Le Covid est toujours là, mais être présent pour le retour du festival, dans le film d’ouverture, c’est un grand sentiment de soulagement et d’excitation ! La Re Opening of the Cannes 2021 Festival

Opening of the 71st Cannes Festival on May 8, 2018 with Edouard Baer Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem: Everybody Knows
Le nouveau film d’Asghar Farhadi en ouverture ! Le réalisateur du “Passé” sera en ouverture de la compétition du 71e Festival de Cannes, avec son nouveau film, “Everybody Knows”. Voici les dernière infos avant la conférence de presse qui se déroulera jeudi 12 avril. Si le 71e Festival de Cannes ne commence pas avant le 8 mai. En attendant le jeudi 12 avril, jour où Thierry Frémaux, le délégué général, dévoilera la sélection officielle , voici ce qui a déjà été dévoilé. Everybody Knows, le huitième long métrage du cinéaste iranien Asghar Farhadi, présenté comme un thriller psychologique, fera l’ouverture du Festival. A noter qu’il figurera en compétition, ce qui n’était pas le cas de tous les films d’ouverture par le passé. Le casting, composé du couple Penélope Cruz – Javier Bardem et de la superstar argentine Ricardo Darín, promet une belle montée des marches. Le film sortira en France dès le lendemain de cette projection, le 9 mai. Asghar Farhadi est déjà venu deux fois en compétition à Cannes, pour le passé en 2013 (Prix d’Interprétation féminine pour Bérénice Bejo), et le client en 2016 (Prix du Scénario et le Prix d’Interprétation masculine pour Shahab Hosseini). Edouard Baer en maître de cérémonie Edouard Baer, troisième. Le réalisateur et comédien avait déjà été le maître des cérémonies d’ouverture et de clôture en 2008 et 2009, et voilà qu’il rempile pour cette 71 édition. Ce sera probablement moins glamour que Monica Bellucci, qui officiait l’année dernière, mais peut-être plus drôle. On vous livre d’ailleurs un extrait du communiqué de presse du diffuseur, Canal+, qui donne le ton : « Cette année encore, il a accepté de faire don de sa magnifique personne pour la plus grande gloire du cinéma mondial, n’ayant rien à gagner dans cette opération sinon quelques rôles conséquents dans des films extrêmement qualitatifs. » On connaît les présidents des différents jurys Si l’on savait depuis début janvier que Cate Blanchett sera la présidente du jury de la compétition , les autres présidents ont été annoncés récemment : Ursula Meier, la réalisatrice de Home de L’enfant d’en haut, sera entourée de six autres professionnels pour choisir la Caméra d’or, qui récompense la meilleure première œuvre présentée en Sélection officielle, à la Semaine de la Critique ou à la Quinzaine des Réalisateurs ; Benicio del Toro devra lui officier sur la sélection Un certain regard, soit une vingtaine d’« œuvres singulières et originales dans leur propos et leur esthétique ». Composé de 5 femmes et de 4 hommes, le jury présidé par l’actrice Cate Blanchett comprendra également l’acteur chinois Chang Chen, la scénariste américaine Ava DuVernay, la chanteuse burundaise Khadja Nin et le réalisateur russe Andreï Zviaguintsev Scorsese à la Quinzaine, Christopher Nolan à Cannes Classics Belle bataille de têtes d’affiche entre la Sélection officielle et la Quinzaine des réalisateurs. Alors que les cinéphiles se réjouissaient déjà de voir Christopher Nolan venir présenter une copie neuve 70 mm du chef-d’œuvre de Stanley Kubrick, 2001, l’Odysée de l’espace, avant de faire une masterclass (le 12 mai), voici que la Quinzaine, qui fête son 50e anniversaire, débarque avec une autre superstar : rien moins que Martin Scorsese. Celui-ci sera présent le 9 mai, en ouverture, pour une projection de Mean Streets (révélé à la Quinzaine 1974), une « conversation », puis la remise du Carosse d’or, prix remis à un réalisateur ayant marqué l’histoire du cinéma. Cannes 2013: Mayor Mr Brochant offers 1500 invitations for projections for the Cannois!
As every year, Mr. Brochant the Mayor of Cannes will reserve 1,500 invitations to the official screenings of the Festival for its members. Without being movie stars, the Cannois will be able to go on the steps of the palace. How do I get the invitations? This Monday, May 7, 10, 11 or 13 must be written from 9 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. in the town hall yellow lounge, and from 9 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. in the town halls of Bocca and Ranguin. The draw will name the winners on the 14th (the results will be available on that day from 2 p.m. in the main town hall). And to really show off, the inhabitants of the city will even be able to play the real festivalgoers during an evening. Great Gatsby: Robert Redford (All is lost) and Di Caprio in Cannes?

Cannes 63 : Wood Robin (Russel Crowe) by Ridley Scott OPENING
Thierry Frémaux has just unearthed his first arrow: the opening film of the next Cannes Festival will be Robin des Bois by Ridley Scott (Outside Competition). A renowned director, a great show, a brilliant casting (Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, William Hurt, Mark Strong, Vanessa Redgrave, Max von Sydow, Léa Seydoux): this choice is not really a surprise, especially since the release of the film in France was set for a few weeks already on May 19. Ridley Scott is not a regular of La Croisette, even though he presented in Cannes his first feature film, Les Duelistes (Prix de la Première Oeuvre). Let's add that Thelma and Louise was presented Out of Competition in 1991. The whole of the Official Selection of the 63rd Cannes Festival, to be held from 12 to 23 next, will be unveiled on April 15. Article sharing
