Great Gatsby: Robert Redford (All is lost) and Di Caprio in Cannes?

Gatsby the magnificent, version Baz Luhrmann, will open the festival. In all logical terms, Leonardo DiCaprio (Gatsby) should therefore climb the steps. It turns out that Robert Redford also camped the same character in Jack Clayton's 1974 film. Frémaux could thus create a beautiful media event, bringing together the two stars on the same red carpet, for having incarnated the same character at 40 years apart. Robert Redford plays in All is Lost, directed by J.C. Chandor (Margin Call) makes a one-man show, in the role of a man who fights to survive in a hostile environment. Opening 66th Cannes Festival : Gatsby the Magnificent with Léonardo Di Caprio

The opening of the 66th Cannes Festival will be with Gatsby the magnificent, the new « madness » Baz Luhrmann. This is the second time that the Australian filmmaker will be entitled to this honour, 12 years after Moulin Rouge! In the official selection, Gatsby will be presented out of competition. Leonardo DiCaprio thus returns to climb the steps. His first appearance on the Croisette dates from 18 years ago for The Quick and The Dead, Sam Raimi's Western. At the time, young Leonardo was not yet a star... He also came in 2007 as a producer of The 11th Hour (The Eleventh Hour, the Last Virafe), an environmental documentary presented out of competition. Gatsby the Magnificent is the adaptation of Francis Scott Fitzgerald's famous novel. This is the fourth time that it has been transposed to a large screen, the most famous version being Jack Clayton, with Robert Redford (1974). In the effervescence of the 1920s on the east coast of the United States, Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) recounts the romantic and tragic life of his friend Jay Gatsby (DiCaprio). The film also features Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, Amitabh Bachchan and Jay-Z. « For everyone who has worked on Gatsby, it is a great honour to open the Cannes Festival, says Baz Luhrmann. I am very proud to return to a country and a festival that have always been generous with me. And happy to see this film screened in Cannes, not very far from Saint-Raphaël where Scott Fitzgerald wrote among the most poignant and moving passages of his extraordinary novel. » The film will be
