On Saturday evening, the Magnum Beach experienced an extraordinary festival closing evening. For this last night on the Croisette, the mythical space of the 50 boulevard de la Croisette had the immense honour of welcoming the winners of the Official Awards of the 79th Cannes Festival, gathered to celebrate together the end of this unforgettable edition. The Palm of Gold crown Fjord of Cristian Mungiu This is the event of this closing evening: Romanian director Cristian Mungiu, Palme d'Or 2007 for 4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days, received the supreme reward for Fjord, his punched film on immigration and faith, carried by Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve. This Friday, May 22, on the CNC beach in Cannes, as part of the Positive Cinema Week, Belgian director Lukas Dhont received the Positive Cinema Award 2026 for his new feature film Coward, presented in Official Competition at the 79th Cannes International Film Festival. The prize was presented to him by Jacques Attali, founding President of Positive Cinema Week, and Estelle Lefébure, patron of this 11th edition, also in the presence of Sam Bobino, co-founder and managing director of Positive Cinema Week. Awarded each year to a film work with a humanist look at the world and helping to change consciousness through the values of transmission, inclusion, resilience or commitment, the Prize for Positive Cinema distinguishes a cinema capable of inspiring change while celebrating the strength of emotion and narrative. With Coward, Lukas Dhont delivers a deeply sensitive and deeply human film that questions the notions of masculinity, courage and freedom in the brutal context of the First World War. Through the story of two young soldiers seeking to preserve their humanity, their sensitivity and their ability to love at the heart of chaos, the director proposes a luminous work on fraternity, tolerance and intimate resistance to violence and thus opposes art and love to horror and barbarity. THE PALMARÈS 2024 of the 77th Cannes Festival
Pour cette 77e édition du Festival de Cannes, présidée par l’actrice et cinéaste Greta Gerwig, la sélection de films a particulièrement mis en lumière des personnages féminins marginaux, questionnant conventions et traditions. Les héroïnes de cette année, affirmant avec force leurs choix de vie, leurs désirs et leurs identités, ont marqué les esprits. La Palme d’Or pour « Anora » de Sean Baker La Palme d’Or a été décernée à « Anora » de Sean Baker, un cinéaste de la nouvelle vague américaine connu pour ses portraits poignants de la société. Dans ce film, Baker raconte l’histoire d’une prostituée new-yorkaise tombant amoureuse du fils d’oligarques russes. Cette tragi-comédie, qui explore les bas-fonds de la société capitaliste, rend hommage aux travailleuses du sexe. « Il y a des milliers d’histoires à raconter dans le domaine de la prostitution. Ce sont des histoires universelles et des milliers de personnes peuvent s’identifier à ces personnages dans le monde », a déclaré Baker lors de la conférence de presse. Double Récompense pour Jacques Audiard Jacques Audiard a également brillé avec sa comédie musicale « Emilia Perez », qui a reçu le prix du jury et le prix d’ensemble pour l’interprétation féminine. Ce film raconte l’histoire d’un chef de cartel mexicain transgenre en quête de rédemption, avec des performances remarquables de Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldana, Adriana Paz et Karla Sofia Gascon. Abordant la réconciliation entre victimes et bourreaux du narcotrafic, ce film résonne particulièrement en période électorale au Mexique. « Les Graines du Figuier Sauvage » : Un Écho à l’Actualité Le film « Les Graines du Figuier Sauvage » de Mohammad Rasoulof, qui a reçu le prix spécial du jury, a également suscité un grand impact. Ce drame familial iranien met en scène un père de famille loyal au régime iranien, remis en question par ses filles. « Quand la religion s’associe au pouvoir politique et au patriarcat, elle peut détruire les relations les plus intimes et la dignité des personnes », ont déclaré les membres du jury œcuménique. Un Message Politique Fort La présence de Mohammad Rasoulof à Cannes a été un événement en soi, le réalisateur ayant quitté clandestinement l’Iran pour éviter une peine de prison. « J’ai une pensée pour les membres de mon équipe retenus en Iran et qui sont sous la pression des services secrets de la République islamique », a-t-il déclaré, soulignant les risques encourus par les cinéastes iraniens. Malgré la répression continue en Iran, des réalisateurs comme Rasoulof, Jafar Panahi, et d’autres, continuent de dénoncer les ravages de l’emprise totalitaire au péril de leur vie. Cannes Film Festival 2024: New Films Complete the Official Selection
« Gather the popcorns and adjust your monocles! The 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival warms up with a casting of competitors that could even make the Croisette blush. Thirteen new films shyly knocked at the door of the Official Selection on Monday, April 22, and were welcomed with open arms, three of them ready for the Palme d'or. At the top of the list is Michel Hazanavicius's ‘The Preciousest of Goods', an animated feature film that risks itself in the courtyard of the greats for the first time since ‘Valse with Bachir' in 2008. Hazanavicius could make sparks, or at least some animated bubbles. He is joined by Mohammad Rasoulof's ‘The Seed of the Sacred Fig', a political film he could vote on his own, especially when one knows that Rasoulof is not exactly the favourite of the Iranian regime. And let's not forget ‘Three Kilometers until the end of the world' by Romanian actor Emanuel Parvu, who we hope will not make you walk too long. Next to the heavy suitors, the Festival also offers us an out-of-competition buffet with the new ‘Monte Cristo Count' starring Pierre Niney – big budget, big sword, big drama. Not to mention the special sessions that promise to captivate, from the intriguing Romanian ‘Nasty' to the much-anticipated ‘Spicitors!' by Arnaud Desplechin, where the cinema looks itself in the mirror. After a week of screenings and encounters, the 8th edition of Positive Cinema Week – which takes place every year in Cannes under the auspices of the International Film Festival – devotes a cinema that changes our gaze on the world, awakens consciousness and invites citizens from all over the world to engage. This year the Prize of Positive Cinema Rewarding the Most Feature Film « Positive » among all the films in official competition in Cannes, was awarded, this Friday 26 May on the beach of the CNC (partner of the event). A prize awarded by the Positive Planet Foundation – which organizes Positive Cinema Week under the direction of its general delegate Sam Bobino – presented by Jacques Attali, President of the Positive Planet Foundation and by actor and director Eric Judor, sponsor of this year's event. The Daughters of Olfa, a film by Kaouther Ben Hania, produced by Nadim Sheikhrouha and distributed in France by Jour2Fête. With: Hend Sabri, Nour Karoui, Ichraq Matar, Majd Mastoura, Olfa Hamrouni, Eya Chikahoui, Tayssir Chikhaoui. Music by: Amine Bouhafa. Released in France on July 5, 2023. The life of Olfa, Tunisian and mother of 4 girls, oscillates between shadow and light. One day, her two eldest daughters disappear. The Palme d'or of the Cannes Film Festival was handed over on Saturday to a family affair of Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda, announced the jury chaired by Cate Blanchett. First Japanese gold palm since L A family affair tells the story of a family that is living in the shops and collecting an abused girl. The American Spike Lee, who has been absent from the Cannes Film Festival for 27 years, was awarded the Grand Prix for BlacKkKlansman, a pamphlet film in which the Brooklyn director denounces both racism, the far right and US President Donald Trump. Jean-Luc Godard was rewarded with a Palme d'or special, for his film The Image Book and his ability to continually reinvent the seventh art. This is the second prize the director receives at the Cannes Film Festival, four years after the Jury Prize for Farewell to Language. Organised on 12 May by the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) of the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand in the presence of Mrs Chutima Bunyapraphasara, the Deputy Minister of Trade of Thailand, this evening is part of a broad programme to accompany Thai industry by DITP during the Cannes Film Festival. This year, Thailand is very well represented at the Cannes Film Festival as no less than five directors participate together in the official selection with their omnibus film « Ten Years in Thailand ». The film, co-directed by Aditya Assarat, Chookiat Sakveerakul, Wisit Sasanatieng, Chulayarnnon Siriphol and Apichatpong Weerasethakul, director at Palme d'Or, is presented as an official selection outside competition. Le 4 janvier, les organisateurs du Festival de Cannes ont annoncé la personnalité qui sera présidente du jury pour l’année 2018. Il s’agit de Cate Blanchett ! Toutefois, il est encore trop tôt pour savoir qui a été choisi pour composer le jury du Festival de Cannes 2018. Sur quelle chaîne regarder le Festival de Cannes 2018 ? Comme chaque année, c’est Canal + qui propose la retransmission en direct et en clair la grande cérémonie du Festival de Cannes.
