THE 72nd CANNES FESTIVAL AFFICHE : VARDA AGNES
The poster pays tribute to Agnes Varda who died on 29 March. A stage photo from August 1954, or the 26-year-old director hanging from a camera is in balance on a technician to shoot her first film « The Short Point » with Philippe Noiret in Sète.
THE PRESIDENT OF THE 72nd CANNES FESTIVAL Alejandro González Iñárritu
It's the Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu (« The Return », « Birdman ») who was appointed president of the jury of the 72nd Festival. With his jurors, who have not yet been appointed, he will hand over the Palme d'Or on May 25.
THE JURY OF THE 72nd CANNES FESTIVAL:
Elle Fanning – Actress / United States
She finds her director of Babel Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu. She was a regular at the Cannes Film Festival and presented in 2016 in Competition The Neon Demon by Nicolas Winding Refn and in 2017, Les Proies de Sofia Coppola.
Maimouna N – Actress, director / Burkina Faso
Her voice is well known since she lent it to the mother in Kirikou (1996) by Michel Ocelot. She won the 2015 FESPACO Award for Best Actress Award for her role in the Sékou Traoré Cyclone Eye.
Kelly Reichardt – Director, screenwriter & editor / USA
Figure du cinéma indépendant américain, Kelly Reichardt a été remarquée dans la section Un certain regard au Festival de Cannes en 2008 avec Wendy et Lucy. Ses films suivants, La Dernière Piste et Night Moves, sont présentés tous deux à la Mostra de Venise en 2010 et 2013. Elle travaille en ce moment sur la post-production de son prochain film, First Cow.
Alice Rohrwacher – Réalisatrice & scénariste / Italie
Son premier long métrage de fiction Corpo celeste a été présenté à la Quinzaine des Réalisateurs en 2011. Elle a remporté le Grand Prix, en 2014, avec Les Merveilles puis le Prix du Scénario en 2018 pour Heureux comme Lazzaro
Enki Bilal – Auteur de bandes-dessinées & cinéaste / France
Auteur d’une trentaine d’albums de bandes-dessinées (La trilogie Nikopol, La femme piège) , Enki Bilal est aussi réalisateur et peintre. Ses trois longs métrages : Bunker Palace Hotel (1989) Tykho Moon (1996) Immortel, ad vitam (2004) sont des films de science-fiction . Il prépare une adaptation pour une série de son dernier album, Bug.
Robin Campillo – Réalisateur, scénariste & monteur / France
Grand Prix du Festival de Cannes 2017 avec 120 battements par minute, Robin Campillo est aussi scénariste et monteur des films de Laurent Cantet. Il a notamment collaboré avec lui sur Entre les Murs, Palme d’or au Festival de Cannes 2008.
Yorgos Lanthimos – Réalisateur, scénariste & producteur / Grèce
Son deuxième long métrage, Canine, a remporté le Prix Un Certain Regard au Festival de Cannes 2009. The Lobster a reçu le Prix du Jury en 2015 et Mise à mort du cerf sacré le Prix du Scénario en 2017. Son dernier film, La Favorite, en compétition au festival de Venise, a reçu dix nominations aux Oscars, et a valu l’Oscar de la Meilleure Actrice à son interprète, Olivia Colman.
Paweł Pawlikowski – Réalisateur & scénariste / Pologne
Après une première carrière en Grande-Bretagne, Paweł Pawlikowski a connu la consécration internationale en se rapprochant de ses racines polonaises et en réalisant Ida, Oscar du Meilleur Film en langue étrangère. Avec Cold War en 2018, il a remporté le Prix de la Mise en scène au Festival de Cannes.
