Thierry Frémaux has just unearthed his first arrow: the opening film of the next Cannes Festival will be Robin des Bois by Ridley Scott (Outside Competition).
A renowned director, a great show, a brilliant casting (Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, William Hurt, Mark Strong, Vanessa Redgrave, Max von Sydow, Léa Seydoux): this choice is not really a surprise, especially since the release of the film in France was set for a few weeks already on May 19.
Ridley Scott is not a regular of La Croisette, even though he presented in Cannes his first feature film, Les Duelistes (Prix de la Première Oeuvre). Let's add that Thelma and Louise was presented Out of Competition in 1991.
The whole of the Official Selection of the 63rd Cannes Festival, to be held from 12 to 23 next, will be unveiled on April 15.
