Opening of the Cannes 2023 Festival with the film Jeanne du Barry
The film Jeanne du Barry de Maiwenn will open the 76th Cannes Film Festival. It will therefore be presented as a world preview on Tuesday 16 May on the screen of the Grand Théâtre Lumière and will be released on the same day in the French theatres. It is the sixth feature film of the director, known for winning the Prix du Jury du Festival de Cannes with the film Polisse in 2011. In this much-anticipated film project, Johnny Depp will encamp the role of King Louis XV and Maiwenn herself will act as her favorite mistress, Jeanne du Barry, known as Madame la Comtesse du Barry. The film will also be directed by Louis Garrel, Pierre Richard, Noémie Lvovsky, India Hair, Benjamin Lavernhe, Pascal Greggory, and Melvil Poupaud. FAMILY GOODS with Catherine Deneuve (closure)
Catherine Deneuve, sa fille Chiara Mastroianni, Ludivine Sagnier, Louis Garrel, Milos Forman ou encore Michel Delpech monteront les marches du Festival de Cannes. Le dernier film de Christophe Honoré, « Les biens aimés » clôturera le 64e Festival de Cannes le 22 mai prochain. Dans les années 60, Madeleine quitte Paris pour rejoindre son nouveau mari Jaromil à Prague. L’arrivée des chars russes dans la ville marquera leur séparation et Madeleine rentrera en France. Dans les années 90, Véra, la fille de Madeleine, tombe amoureuse à Londres d’Henderson qui, lui, se sent incapable de l’aimer. Madeleine et Vera chantent à tour de rôle la fin du vingtième siècle, avec une légèreté têtue, sans laquelle elles risqueraient bien de succomber… Une projection du film Le Sauvage de Jean-Paul Rappeneau (1975) aura lieu lors du festival de Cannes, en présence de Catherine Deneuve, du réalisateur. L’oeuvre va être présentée dans la section Cannes Classic qui met à l’honneur des chefs-d’oeuvres restaurés. Par ailleurs, Le Sauvage ressortira en salles le 5 octobre.
