Dans le communiqué diffusé par le Festival, le scénariste, producteur et réalisateur argentin a déclaré : Je suis très fier d’être le Président du Jury du Certain Regard. Fier de participer à l’aventure cannoise d’une autre manière. Le Certain Regard, où j’ai présenté trois de mes films, est une sélection toujours passionnante. On y trouve de grands maîtres, de jeunes promesses, les nouveaux pays et les formes nouvelles du cinéma. Trapero, 42 ans, avait reçu le Prix de la Critique à Venise en 1999 avec son premier long métrage Mundo Grúa. Avec son film suivant, El Bonaerense, en 2002, il est sélectionné à Un Certain regard au Festival de Cannes. Depuis, il ne quittera pas la Croisette : en compétition avec Leonera en 2008, à Un Certain Regard avec Carancho en 2010 et Elefante blanco en 2012. Avec sa société Matanza Cine, il a produit des cinéastes comme Lisandro Alonso, Albertina Carri, Enrique Bellande, Ezequiel Acuña et Raúl Perrone.
