Selection of the Directors' Fortnight – Cannes2017
The Directors' Fortnight, commonly referred to as « Fifteen », is a parallel selection of the Cannes festival created after the events of May 68 and organized by the Société des réalisateurs de films . 49th edition that will shoot in France unveiled on April 20th.
This festival is completely independent of the Cannes festival, originally created to compete with it and show spectators films from all walks of life. This year we can find regulars of the Festival.
Bruno Dumont and Claire Denis will therefore be good in Cannes, but at the Fortnight. These are two of the five French directors present in the selection unveiled this morning alongside Philippe Garrel, Sonia Kronlund and Carine Tardieu.
The French will bring a touch of fantasy: Jeannette of the Bruno Dumont is a musical about the childhood of Jeanne d'Arc.
A beautiful sun inside of the Claire Denis is a slight adaptation of a test Roland Barthes on love with Juliette Binoche and Gérard Depardieu which will be on the Croistte in May.
Nothingwood of the Sonia Kronlund is a crazy documentary about an Afghan Z-series producer; Get me out of doubt. is the new comedy of Carine Tardieu (Mom's head). Philippe Garrel remains faithful to his intimate passional universe with A lover of a day.
To be noted, Bushwick of the Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott, an attractive pitch dystopia (evoking a civil war in the United States), and the new film (The Rider) by Chloé Zhao, who had impressed with The songs my brothers taught mehis first feature film. The Italians, who place three films, will also come in strength. This leaves little room for other cinematography: Canada, Ukraine, Zambia, Indonesia and Colombia will each have a representative in this selection, which is therefore very much in Asia, South America and the rest of Europe (not English, German, Belgian, Spanish...).
The Americans will be present with five representatives, including Abel Ferrara which will propose Alive in France, a documentary about his musical tour with us last year.
