Thursday 14 April 2011, 11:00 a.m., Grand-Hôtel Paris, this morning Gilles Jacob and Thierry Frémeaux will present the official selection of the 64th Cannes International Festival. For this 2011 vintage, actor-director Robert De Niro is the president of the official selection, director Michel Gondry the jury of short films and Cinéfondation and actress Mélanie Laurent will be in charge of the presentation of the ceremony. The film that will open this 64th edition of the Cannes Film Festival is none other than the much anticipated « Midnight in Paris by Woody Allen. CANNES 2011: GUS VAN SANT (palme d'or 2003) RECEIVES WITH RESTLESS
Official Festival de Cannes : Restless , by Gus Van Sant , will open Un Certain regard on Thursday, May 12. The film explores the relationship between two teenagers incarnated by Mia Wasikowska and Henry Hooper. Gus Van Sant is a great regular of the festival: selected for the first time with Ready to All, in 1995, he received a Palme d'Oren 2003 for Elephant and a prize at the 60th anniversary of the festival, in 2007, for Paranoid Park. So Gus Van Sant won the Palme d'Or and will not be in the official competition this year. This year, it is Emir Kusturica who will preside over the jury of Un Certain Regard, and will therefore award a prize to one of the films selected on 21 May. Article sharing
MICHEL DRUCKER AT MAJESTIC 64 FOR ONE SHOT
Michel Drucker will present a special film show on occasion 64th Festival. This one-shot will be broadcast shortly after the closing ceremony on Sunday, May 22, in the second part of the evening on France 2. The filming of this program will take place on May 14. Le Certain Regard, the heart of the Official Selection with the Competition, presents every year about twenty films from all countries and characterized by the originality of their words and their aesthetics. Emir Kusturica received the Palme d'Or in 1985 for Dad is on business, his second film. Ten years later, the one he obtained with Underground made him join the reserved club of directors twice crowned on the Croisette. Michel Gondry, President of the Short Film Jury and Cinéfondation 2011
A few days ago, Cocorico... It is MICHEL GONDRY, the French director present in the selection in 2001 with Human Nature, in 2008 with his triptych Tokyo! at Certain Regard, and in 2009 out of competition with the documentary portrait L Michel Gondry, also videographer and musician, sketched in seven feature films, some shorts and seventy music clips a deeply original work, tinted with brownness and doutopia. Oscar for Best Scenario in 2004, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was followed in 2006 by Science of Dreams, then Be Kind, Rewind in 2008. The Green Hornet (The Green Frelon), currently on French screens since January 2011, is to date its greatest success in theaters. The filmmaker has just opened at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, his « Factory of amateur films », both creative studio and DIY workshop, where everyone can make a short film in three hours. This gifted illusionist, with a generous imagination, will award the three Cinéfondation awards with his team on Friday, May 20, before presenting the Palme d'Or of the short film during the ceremony of the Palmarès on May 22, 2011.
