This Friday, May 23 at 1 p.m., on the CNC beach in Cannes, the directors Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne received the Prix du Cinéma Positive 2025 for their last film Young mothers, a poignant and committed work praised for its humanism and social reach.
The prize (the second for the Dardenne brothers after that received in 2022 for Tori and Lokita), which rewards the most positive feature film among all those in official competition at the Cannes Film Festival, was presented to them by the sponsors of this edition, Aïssa Maiga, engaged actress and director, and Jimmy Jean-Louis, international actor, both fervent defenders of a cinema with meaning and impact.
The ceremony was held in an inspiring atmosphere, in the presence of Sam Bobino, Director of Positive Cinema Week, Rosalie MannPresident of the No More Plastic Association, Dolores Chaplin, actress and director, and Alexandra Cousteau, filmmaker and explorer and Estelle Lefebure, actress and president of the Spero Mar association.
Young mothers (produced by Les Films du Fleuve, the duo of directors, in co-production with Archipel 35/Archipel 33) is part of the continuity of the work of the Dardenne brothers, highlighting with rare accuracy the challenges and strength of women in early motherhood. Their sensitive and deeply human eyes on society find a powerful echo once again, and this prize salutes not only their work, but also their constant commitment to a cinema with hope and transformation.
The Prize for Positive Cinema, created in 2016 by Jacques Attali, to reward films that inspire, awaken awareness and promote positive change in the world, find Young mothers a particularly emblematic winner this year in Cannes.
