The 17th of May in Cannes was a night of contrasts: from the cinema engaged to the confidential festival, to the most surprising projects of the Quinzaine. A dense evening, under the sign of sharing, reflection and creative energy.
Projection of "Orwell 2 + 2 = 5" by Raoul Peck – Intimistic, deep, necessary
I had the honour of attending the screening of the new film of Raoul Peck, Orwell 2 + 2 = 5distributed by The Covenant. This incisive documentary focuses on the last days of George Orwell, to better draw the contours of a contemporary society under surveillance, conditioned by new languages and power structures. A work that is both sober and fulgurating, and a dreadful news.
The evening that followed was like the film: in a small committee, in a discreet and professional setting. A privileged moment of reunion, discussions, where the film team was present.
I had the joy to meet a friend actor Eriq Ebouaney, faithful support of the engaged cinema, as well as the great photographer Kriss Dewitte, whose black and white clichés capture moments of truth with rare sensitivity. Dangerous Animal" – sharks to the Fortnight, and a top Fx team
Change of scenery on the beach Vega Cartel, with the presentation of Dangerous Animal ( due July 25, 2025 ), a film Horror scare, Thriller whose protagonist is another serial killer obsessed with sharks !!. One evening in a resolutely relaxed atmosphere, the film was surprised by its presence at the Filmmakers' Fortnight – a rare choice for this genre, often squandered at major festivals. Yet there was a new, bold energy and a real sense of genre cinema.
I was able to exchange with a part of the team responsible for special effects, passionate and inventive, who managed to create a visual tension while playing with cinema codes and horror. The photocall offered us a lighter moment, especially with the famous surfboard, which became the cult accessory of the evening.
In addition to these exchanges, I also met a young actress and model Erika, discovering Cannes side off. The opportunity to exchange some contacts and to see, once again, that the festival remains a point of encounters and professional perspectives « Champagne by hand «
Silencio – More than private, for the FrouFrou evening
The Silencio, usually a confidential club reserved for a chosen circle, hosted an even more restricted FrouFrou evening that evening. Under the sponsorship of Lacostewhich had established a guest list Extremely selective, the evening focused the eyes. It was necessary to show white leg, but for the initiates, the atmosphere was worth the detour. A clubing evening or the quiet darkness of the place.
Ministers' Villa – Brazil in Light
The evening continued at the Villa of Ministers, where Brazil was honoured at the presentation of the film Only Staying in the Stor, a coproduction between Brazil, Portugal, France and Romania. A warm atmosphere, a beautiful energy, and the presence of prominent figures like Kléber Mendonça Filho or Marcelo Caetano, as well as several young talent and content creators come to represent the dynamism of the Brazilian cultural scene.
