The Festival de Cannes 2011, 64th edition, takes place from May 11 to May 22, 2011. The master of ceremonies is Mélanie Laurent and the president of the jury is actor Robert De Niro.

On January 6, 2011, the organizers of the Cannes Film Festival announced that American actor Robert De Niro accepted their proposal to chair the jury of the 64th edition. This choice is a tribute to the co-founder of the TriBeCa Festival, who is organizing its 10th edition that same year. With regard to his future role, he then states: « Having twice been jury president in the 1980s, I know that this will not be an easy task for my jurors and myself, but I am honored and happy with the role entrusted to me by the Cannes Film Festival. ».

31 January 2011, the French Cinematheque announces that a restored version of Stanley Kubrick's Mechanical Orange will be screened as a world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. On February 2, 2011, an official press release announced Woody Allen's selection of Minuit in Paris as an opening film. For the second time since Robin des Bois in 2010, spectators will be able, in the equipped rooms, to watch the opening ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival followed by the film.

Jean-Paul Belmondo and his companion Barbara Gandolfi welcomed by Gilles Jacob at the top of the marches for the tribute of the festival to the actor.

The comments of filmmaker Lars von Trier on the Nazi regime caused a stir during the festival.
4 March 2011Gilles Jacob announces on the plateau of Canal+'s Grand Journal that the French actress Mélanie Laurent will be the ceremonial mistress during the opening and closing of the 64th edition of the Festival. 30 March 2011Gilles Jacob and Thierry Frémaux announce that the festival will host a tribute to actor Jean-Paul Belmondo, including the screening of the film Belmondo route by Vincent Perrot and Jeff Domenech in the presence of the actor. On April 11, 2011, the award of a Palme d'honneur to Bernardo Bertolucci was announced on the Festival website. While the Palme d'honneur has been awarded so far only exceptionally (especially to Clint Eastwood in 2009 and Woody Allen in 2002), this award, awarded at the opening ceremony, is now annual and awarded by Festival organizers to a remarkable director who has never received the Palme d'or.

14 April 2011Gilles Jacob and Thierry Frémaux announce at the press conference held, according to the usual practice, at the Grand Hôtel InterContinental in Paris, the list of films selected for the 2011 edition7. 4 May 2011, a few days before the opening of the festival, the film The Artist originally presented out of competition, is integrated in official competition.

18 May 2011During Melancholia's press conference, Lars von Trier made ambiguous comments about the Nazi regime, mainly about Adolf Hitler. He says, among other things: « I say I understand man. He's not really a good guy, but... I feel a little sorry for him. » He then apologized in a statement at the request of the Festival being said « emulated » By these words. On May 19, the Festival declared him persona non grata. His film nevertheless remains in competition, Gilles Jacob specifying « not wanting to sanction a work, but man's words ».

22 May 2011, the list was unveiled, and unlike in previous years, the Palme d'or, Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life was not unanimous (he was whistled and applauded during his screening). Yet the favourite film of the press according to the aggregator The French Film, it is finally the least rated film of the press and spectators on Allociné (except Footnote). Same result in America, other award-winning films have better scores than the Palme. Malick's film (an unprolific and much-anticipated director) divided the festivalists, the conquered praised a masterpiece with a magnificent photograph and a Hollywood non-formating, the opponents criticizing a pretentious film with a New Age aspect.

Concert AYO and Matthieu Chedid in Villa Chic (Favella Chic Paris)

MATER CLASS AUDI CANNES 2011 with Patrice Leconte (French director)

Audi a créé l’évenement ce Vendredi dernier avec une Master Class conssacrée au réalisateur Patrice Leconte et au compositeur Craig Armstrong, tous deux Jury des Audi Talents Awards 2011 … Moment délicieux ou le 7ème Art était au coeur de toutes les discutions. Dans l’après midi, les deux lauréats Dominique Rocher (Prix du Court-métrage) et Pascal Lengagne (Prix de la Musique) ont eu leur premières interviews avec l’ensemble de la presse Mondiale. C’est dans le restaurant très tendance du centre ville de Cannes « LE SPARKLING & FOR YOU », qu’hier soir la société de production Chinoise PEGASUS MOTION PICTURES DISTRIBUTION présentait lors d’un Cocktail le détonnant et érotique film en 3D qui à détronné à Hong-Kong la superproduction Américaine « AVATAR » de J. Caméron lors de la première semaine d’exploitation. L’ensemble de l’équipe ainsi que deux des actrices et le réalisateur Christopher Sun Lap Key ont fait le déplacement à Cannes pour présenter le premier film érotique tourné en 3D Le film est sur les écrans depuis le jeudi 14 avril 2011. PALMARES OF AUDI TALENTS AWARDS 2011

Last night, took place in the AUDI car brand's Lounges in the gardens of the Grand Hotel, the fourth edition of the Audi Talent Awards. Michel Denisot was at the helm of this great Annual Ceremony which takes place during the Cannes International Film Festival. Benoit Tiers, Managing Director of AUDI France officially revealed the winners of the Audi Talents Awards for the Short Film and Music categories at this exceptional evening. All the members of the jury, Alain Attal, Craig Armstrong, Cécile Cassel, Didier Houarau, Grégoire Lassalle, Patrice Leconte and Eric Michon, as well as numerous personalities from 7th Art such as Gilles Lelouche, Jean Paul Rouve, Lambert Wilson, made the trip on the Croisette to present the prizes to the winners. Pascal Lengagne is the winner of the Audi Talents Awards in the Music category. The members of the Jury, appeased his avant-gardeism and praised his audacity in his work between music and image. The Audi Talents Awards were awarded to Dominique Rocher. SOIRE CINECITTA 18 MAY MAJESTIC PLAGE

Soirée Cinecittà sur la plage du Majestic le 18 mai: le décor, les costumes, les acteurs, réalisateurs, producteurs italiens qui sont entrés dans celle que l’on apelle « l’ Usine à rêves ». La soirée sera aussi, un hommage à toutes les personnes qui ont fait Cinecittà, et qui avec talent contribuent chaque jour à la création d’un film. Cinecittà a toujours été un lieu où les auteurs et les professionnels ont eut la possibilité de faire de leurs rêves une réalité. On retrouvera Nanni Moretti en compétion avec Habemus Papa. Il y a de fortes chances que Robert de Niro qui y a tourné Novecento de Bertolucci qui sera présent (il recevra une palme d’honeur le 11 mai) , l’accompagne pour une soirée Mythique de rêve : Festival de cannes, plage du Majestic, Robert de Niro et Bertolucci discutant sur le ponton une coupe à la main sous le regard amusé de Monica Bellucci… Is’ Cannes Baby !!!
