The luxury brand JW Marriot will make its debut in Cannes this year. The 261-room Stephanie Palace Hotel became the JW Marriott Located on La Croisette, on the site of the ancient and mythical Palais des Festivals of the city. The recently renovated property now features a more modern design that reflects its glamorous film heritage, paying tribute to legendary movie stars such as Sophia Loren, Brigitte Bardot, and Elizabeth Taylor especially for Cannes 2011. During the day, the Directors' Fortnight settles in this place ideally placed with its famous lunches orchestrated by Sam Bobino.* In the evening it should be Albane Cléret: a name to symbolize the event around the Cannes Festival, director of the communication agency of the same name, this essential figure of the festival prepares a new concept place on the terrace. Photographer Peter Lindbergh will present a recent series inspired by cinema. The JW Marriott Hotel includes a heated pool and a rooftop hot tub, a private beach, a lounge bar restaurant « The Scena » serving Italian, Japanese and French cuisine, 16 meeting rooms and an auditorium of 820 seats. Je trouve curieux qu’elle n’écrive pas elle même son discours, elle espère ainsi obtenir des propos « intelligents, drôles et légers », selon le cahier des charges de la fonction remis par Gilles Jacob, le président du festival. « Nicolas Bedos, c’est l’une des personnes qui me connaît le mieux », a confié vendredi Mélanie Laurent lors d’une rencontre avec la presse organisée par Canal+ qui diffusera les 11 et 22 mai les cérémonies d’ouverture et de clôture. Nicolas, fils de Guy Bedos et chroniqueur irréverrencieux dans Semaine Critique (France 2) et Mélanie ont déjà travaillé ensemble : elle a joué dans la pièce qu’il a écrite, Promenade de santé. CANNES 2011: GUS VAN SANT (palme d'or 2003) RECEIVES WITH RESTLESS
Official Festival de Cannes : Restless , by Gus Van Sant , will open Un Certain regard on Thursday, May 12. The film explores the relationship between two teenagers incarnated by Mia Wasikowska and Henry Hooper. Gus Van Sant is a great regular of the festival: selected for the first time with Ready to All, in 1995, he received a Palme d'Oren 2003 for Elephant and a prize at the 60th anniversary of the festival, in 2007, for Paranoid Park. So Gus Van Sant won the Palme d'Or and will not be in the official competition this year.
