Cannes – Japanese director Naomi Kawase, who just triumphed in theaters with « Tokyo Delights », will be the president of the jury of the Cinéfondation and short films of the Festival de Cannes 2016.
(Naomi Kawase was also a member of the competition jury in 2013 with Steven Spielberg.)

Zen director « Tokyo delights », presented last year at the opening of the section Un Certain Regard, will be the president of the jury of the Cinéfondation (training » young talent) and short films from the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.
In 1997 Naomi Kawase obtained the Camera d'or, the Palme of the first films, just 27 years old, for « Suzaku ». She presented four long competitions, « Shara » in 2003, « Mogari Forest » 2007 (Grand Jury Prize) « Hanezu the spirit of the mountains » 2011 and « Still the Water » in 2014. This year she joins the great presidents of the Cinéfondation jury and courts such as Martin Scorsese, Abbas Kiarostami, Jane Campion, Hou Hsiao Hsien, John Boorman the Dardenne brothers.
When she announced her appointment, she said: « Films enrich life and short films are particularly difficult exercises because how to transmit a story in such a short time? Among the student films we will see, and that makes me look forward to taking part in this jury. This is going to be a great adventure. »
The Cannes blog shares his appreciation and we look forward to discovering his judgment. Short films will also be presented at the Short Film Corner, in the Palais at the 69th Cannes Film Festival, from May 11-22.
