The Cannes Film Festival adds Jim Jarmusch's latest film, "Only Lovers Left Alive", to the official competition.
One week after the announcement of the official competition of the 66th Cannes Festival, a new name completes the list: Jim Jarmusch. Thierry Frémaux, announced on 26 April, without explaining the reasons for this late selection, while the film was already finished.
The films that are added after the announcement of the official selection are advantaged: in fact, they benefit from huge media coverage, because everyone gets under the tooth any new information about the Festival, already from this point of view, they have won! Then the future spectators in Cannes where elsewhere will have memorized this film of which they first heard more about than the others...
So it's « Only Lovers Left Alive » which thus joins the list of 20 films in competition and marks the return of the American filmmaker to Cannes, eight years after his Grand Prix of the jury awarded to Broken Flowers and more than twenty-five years after the Caméra d'Or won by Stranger Than Paradise. In between, Jim Jarmusch was often selected in competition, but each time had to leave without reward... to be continued.
