A Croisette under the sign of the series
In Cannes, there is the red carpet... And the pink carpet. And if the first makes movie stars shine, the second makes the hearts of the series, influencers and other lovers of well-written episodes crackle. For a week, the Croisette moulted: fewer palms, more popcorn (bio), less glitter in dress, more chiseled scenarios. Canneséries 2025 has just finished, and we, passionate bloggers (and a bit insomniac), have prepared a debrief as complete as a final of Succession. Whether you missed the event or were looking to shine on the terrace, this is all you should not miss from this 8th edition.
Official Competition Series
Long series
Eight international series competed this year, offering a rich and diverse panorama:
A Better Man (Norway, Lithuania): An exploration of masculinism through the portrait of a man who trolls women online.
Dead End (Belgium): It's a thrilling thriller on fates crossed in a crime-ridden city.
How to Kill Your Sister (Belgium, Germany): A black comedy about fraternal rivalries pushed to the extreme.
L/Over (Finland): A romantic series that questions modern relationships in the digital age.
Malditos (France): A dramatic fresco within a gypsy community threatened by rising waters.
Nepobaby (Norway): A satire about the children of celebrities and their quest for identity.
Reykjavik Fusion (Iceland): A family drama against the background of a merger of companies in the Icelandic capital.
S Line (South Korea): Based on a webtoon, this series follows a young girl able to see invisible lines connecting sexual partners through special glasses.
Short series
Six series were selected in this category, highlighting innovative formats:
Sleep No. 13 (Finland): A mysterious series taking place in a university residence.
Lost Media (France): An investigation into missing digital content.
Infiltrate your life (Canada): A comedy about the limits of intrusion into privacy.
N00b (New Zealand): An immersion in the world of video games and beginners.
Oh, Otto! (Belgium): The adventures of an atypical character in an absurd world.
Rebound (Norway): A reconstruction story after a love breakup.
Documentary series
Five documentaries were presented, offering unique perspectives on various topics:
Flushed, when lightning does not kill (France): A look at lightning survivors.
Hello Stranger (Belgium): An exploration of human relations in the digital age.
Real Life (France): A portrait of contemporary French youth.
The Agent – The Life and Lies of My Father (Norway): A personal investigation into a mysterious father.
The Nazi Cartel (Germany): An investigation into Nazi networks after the Second World War.
Awards of the 2025 edition
The jury, chaired by Jeff Russo, rewarded the following series:
Best long series : A Better Man (Norway, Lithuania), a psychological thriller on a misogynous troll faced with its own contradictions.
Special price for interpretation : Nepobaby (Norway), for his entire casting and satirical scenario.
Best Short Series : Oh, Otto! (Belgium), a dive into the LGBTQ community in Brussels.
Interpretation price : Anders Baasmo for his role in Oh, Otto!.
High School Awards : Oh, Otto! (Belgium).
Meilleure série documentaire : The Agent – The Life and Lies of My Father (Norvège), une enquête personnelle sur un père mystérieux.
Prix de la meilleure musique : S Line (Corée du Sud), pour sa bande-son envoûtante signée Lee Jun-oh.
Prix Europe 1 du public : La Fièvre (France), une série créée par Eric Benzekri.
Prix Madame Figaro Rising Star : Marie Colomb, pour ses performances remarquées dans Laëtitia and Culte.
Prix de l’Engagement Konbini : Nicola Coughlan, pour son rôle dans La Chronique des Bridgerton et son engagement sociétal.
Les séries hors compétition
Sept séries ont été présentées hors compétition, offrant des avant-premières très attendues :
Duster (États-Unis) : Créée par J.J. Abrams, cette série se déroule dans les années 1970 et suit un chauffeur travaillant pour un syndicat du crime.
Holy Sh!t (Belgium): Une comédie déjantée sur des situations absurdes.
Le Comte de Monte-Cristo (Italie, France) : Une nouvelle adaptation du classique d’Alexandre Dumas.
Plaine Orientale (France): Un drame rural sur les tensions intergénérationnelles.
The Agency (États-Unis) : Un thriller d’espionnage sur les coulisses de la CIA.
The Big Fuck-Up (Belgium): Une série sur les conséquences d’une erreur monumentale.
The Walking Dead: Dead City (Saison 2) (États-Unis) : La suite des aventures de Negan et Maggie dans un New York post-apocalyptique.
Accessibilité du festival
Canneséries est un festival gratuit et ouvert au public, offrant projections et rencontres à tous les passionnés de séries. Les projections ont lieu dans les conditions techniques exceptionnelles du Palais des Festivals et des Congrès de Cannes.
Canneséries 2025 a prouvé une fois de plus que la série est un art à part entière, capable de rassembler, d’émouvoir et de surprendre. Vivement l’année prochaine pour de nouvelles découvertes sur le tapis rose !
